Where is Gao Zhisheng? The Cost of Freedom in China
July 9 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeJoin us at IRD on Weds. July 9 at 6 pm for a conversation about the rule of law and religious freedom in China and the “bravest lawyer in China,” two time Nobel Prize nominee Gao Zhisheng. Because of Gao’s work defending human rights, including religious freedom, the Chinese government has arrested, imprisoned, and tortured him multiple times since 2006. Gao’s current whereabouts are unknown. His conversion to Christianity inspired his defense of religious freedom for all and his conscience led him to stay in China and endure persecution.
Prof. William Saunders, director for the center of Human Rights at Catholic University will moderate a conversation on between human rights activist, Chen Guangcheng (Distinguished Fellow, Catholic University of America), who brought international attention to the forced abortion and sterilization of women in China, and Bob Fu, president of ChinaAid, a U.S.-based nonprofit advancing religious freedom and rule of law in China through advocacy and legal aid.
Reception will be at 6:00PM with the talk starting at 6:30PM.
